A reminder for New Jersey drivers: throwing trash out of your car window counts as littering. Under state law, dropping litter anywhere other than a trash can is a petty disorderly persons offense, with a fine of at least $100 and up to $500 for each offense. A bill now in the Legislature would raise that to between $200 and $600.
