Mayor Zohran Mamdani has signed an executive order requiring New York City to expand safety technology across its non-emergency municipal vehicle fleet, mandating that approximately 4,000 city trucks be equipped with pedestrian and cyclist alert devices by June 2029 while requiring all newly purchased non-emergency city vehicles to include both pedestrian warning systems and intelligent speed-limiting technology. City Hall says more than 1,000 fleet vehicles already have the devices installed, with the technology helping reduce hazardous speeding by 64% over more than 8 million miles driven since 2022.
