Mayor Zohran Mamdani unveiled a major new Vision Zero traffic safety plan Tuesday that includes expanding 15 MPH speed limits near hundreds of additional schools, creating more pedestrian-only zones and cracking down on reckless drivers and vehicles with ghost plates. The plan also calls for speed-limiting devices for repeat school-zone speeders, new safety upgrades at 1,000 intersections each year and higher tolls for oversized passenger vehicles. Some of the proposals will require approval from state lawmakers.
