A 50-year-old Walden man was arrested Wednesday, July 15, after becoming combative during a traffic stop near Marshall's in Monticello, according to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said David Monastersky was stopped for allegedly driving with a suspended license and was initially going to be issued an appearance ticket and released, but he allegedly refused to provide information needed for the arrest report and became combative. During the struggle, one deputy suffered a knee injury. Monastersky was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Mischief, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Resisting Arrest, and felony Assault. He was processed at the Sheriff's Office and released under New York's bail reform law. He is due to appear in the Town of Thompson Court on July 27, 2026.
