Moroccan Jews traveled to Jerusalem for centuries, driven by deep religious devotion to the Holy Land and, at times, by periods of instability in Morocco. By the 1930s, they had already established a thriving community in the Old City. They prayed in the narrow alley alongside the Western Wall, as the large plaza we know today did not yet exist. Right beside them stood the Mughrabi Quarter, a Muslim neighborhood named after the Maghreb region, where Muslim immigrants from North Africa lived. A glimpse into the centuries old connection between Moroccan Jews and Jerusalem, a bond that has endured for hundreds of years.
