UK: The Conservatives have pledged to invest £10bn in a new system to defend Britain against long-range missiles and drones if they win the next general election. The “Britannia Shield” would combine advanced radar, command-and-control systems, interceptor missiles and counter-drone capabilities into an integrated air-defence network. The Tories initially described the system as “in essence a British ‘Iron Dome’”, comparing it to Israel’s missile defence shield. However, party leader Kemi Badenoch later distanced herself from the comparison in broadcast interviews. The £10bn would be spent over 10 years and funded from the Conservatives’ commitment to increase defence spending to 3% of GDP by 2030.
