UK: The former chief constable of West Midlands Police is being investigated over the controversial decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters from attending a match against Aston Villa in Birmingham last year. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said its initial probe found Craig Guildford may have committed gross misconduct. Three other officers and a police staff member are also being investigated. Maccabi supporters were barred from the Europa League match at Villa Park in November over safety concerns based on an inaccurate police report. Eight errors were later identified in the report, including overstating Maccabi supporters’ role in disorder in Amsterdam in 2024 and referring to a non-existent match between Maccabi and West Ham, an error said to have been produced by Microsoft Copilot.
