UK: Hundreds of protesters gathered in Portsmouth after a small boat carrying around 140 migrants was intercepted and its occupants brought ashore in the city. Demonstrators blocked roads for hours and clashed with police as they attempted to prevent coaches carrying the migrants from leaving for a processing centre. A police dispersal order was imposed and the protest ended in the early hours. The government condemned what it called “intimidating and thuggish behaviour”, while the Home Office said all those brought ashore were safely relocated.
