UK: Barclays has announced plans to cut around 5,000 jobs, equivalent to 5% of its workforce, as the bank increasingly uses AI and other technology to reduce costs. Around 1,000 jobs have already been cut, with the remaining 4,000 expected to go by the end of the year. Approximately 60% of the cuts will affect support roles, including software developers. The announcement comes as Barclays reported a 12% rise in third-quarter pre-tax profits to £2.3 billion.
