UK: The UK will witness the country’s fullest solar eclipse since 1999 this evening, with the event expected to be the best of its kind visible from Britain for the next 50 years. The Moon will cover more than 90% of the Sun at the eclipse’s peak, with up to 96% of the Sun’s disc obscured, depending on location. The peak will occur between 18:58 and 19:15 BST. The eclipse will be total in parts of Spain, Portugal, Iceland, Greenland and Russia. Health experts warn people not to look directly at the Sun without certified eclipse glasses, as doing so can cause permanent eye damage.
