UK: Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband has summoned Israel’s top diplomat in the UK after Israel published a tender for the construction of about 1,200 homes, as part of the E1 programme of “expansion” in the West Bank. Miliband called the move an “unacceptable and destructive act” and demanded “an immediate reversal”, saying Britain would not “stand back and accept the destruction of the two-state solution”. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar rejected Miliband’s criticism “outright”, accusing him of using a “patronising tone” and comparing the right of Jews to live in the area to the right of British people to live in London. The UK says it will announce a “comprehensive set of measures” in the coming weeks in response to Israeli government policies.
