Tech: Millions of websites worldwide could be at risk after two critical security vulnerabilities were discovered in PHP, a programming language widely used to power the internet. The flaws, identified with the help of AI, could allow hackers to take control of vulnerable servers and steal sensitive information. One expert estimates that around 30 million websites could be affected. Several major organisations have temporarily taken websites offline as a precaution, including the UK’s Office for Budget Responsibility and NHS Scotland. Amazon also says it detected an attempt by hackers to exploit the vulnerabilities. Emergency security updates have now been released, with the US National Security Agency and Britain’s National Cyber Security Centre urging organisations using PHP to install the fixes immediately or consider taking affected systems offline until they can be secured.
