Israel: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s former military secretary has accused him of prioritising his political survival over the lives of Israeli hostages held in Gaza. In an interview with Channel 12, Maj. Gen. (res.) Avi Gil claimed that some hostages who died in captivity could have been brought home alive, but that Netanyahu sometimes changed course on hostage deals following opposition from far-right coalition ministers. Asked whether Netanyahu had prioritised his political survival over the hostages’ lives, Gil replied: “Factually, that is exactly what happened.” Gil also alleged that Netanyahu’s chief of staff attempted to alter the recorded time of a telephone call on the morning of the October 7 attack. He said Netanyahu had received repeated warnings about the risk of war beforehand, although none specifically predicted the Hamas attack. Likud rejects the allegations, calling the interview “part of the false and politically motivated propaganda campaign against Prime Minister Netanyahu and Likud.” Join EJN: https://wa.me/447443160130?text=Hi!%20I%20would%20like%20to%20subscribe%20to%20the%20EJN.%20My%20name%20is:%20
