US: Luigi Mangione has pleaded guilty to two federal charges over the killing of healthcare executive Brian Thompson. Asked by the judge to explain in his own words why he believed he was guilty, Mangione said he had endured severe pain from a back injury for years and, after navigating the insurance system, learned that UnitedHealthcare would hold its annual investor conference in New York City on 4 December 2024. Mangione said he researched the event online and “used a 3D printer to make a gun and silencer”. He said he emailed UnitedHealthcare with the intention of shooting Thompson and later shot him in the back. “I understood my actions would place him in fear of death and bodily injury, I knew what I was doing,” he said.
