Ukraine: President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned Elon Musk that restrictions on Starlink satellite internet services used by Ukrainian military drones could cost lives, describing the situation as “a big mistake”. Speaking to Piers Morgan, Zelensky said he believed the restrictions may have been introduced to damage Ukraine, although he acknowledged they could also be the result of a technical problem. Ukraine’s defence minister has since announced on X that Starlink connectivity at speeds of up to 160km/h is being restored. However, he said the speed limit must be removed entirely. In response, Musk said the military-grade Starshield system is controlled by the US government, with restrictions determined by the US military and ultimately President Trump. He added that SpaceX’s commercial Starlink service is intended for civilian and defensive purposes and cannot be used for offensive military operations.
