UK: Two Iranian men have appeared in court accused of plotting a terrorist bomb attack targeting Manchester’s Jewish community. Salam Ahmadyan, 36, and Rahman Salehi, 34, allegedly carried out “hostile reconnaissance” of Heaton Park Synagogue and Manchester Jewish Museum and obtained instructions for making a homemade bomb using chlorine and brake fluid. Prosecutors said the pair were in contact with a third person who allegedly directed and coordinated the planned attack and is believed to be an Iranian national operating from Iran. Both men arrived in the UK by small boat. Salehi was granted asylum in 2023, while Ahmadyan’s asylum claim remains outstanding. They have been remanded in custody and are due to appear at the Old Bailey on 23 October.
