Gaza: The IDF has confirmed for the first time that its troops opened fire on a car carrying five-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab, who was killed alongside six relatives in Gaza in January 2024. Hind initially survived and spent hours on the phone pleading for help. An ambulance sent to rescue her, in co-ordination with the Israeli military, was later hit, killing two paramedics. The IDF, which initially said its troops were not in the area, said soldiers had fired at the vehicle, which was “travelling contrary to the advanced notice” issued to residents. It has ordered a criminal investigation, citing “alleged failures in the co-ordination” of the ambulance’s movement. A separate criminal investigation will examine the killing of 15 rescue workers travelling in a convoy of ambulances and emergency vehicles in Rafah in March 2025.
