Israel: IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has ordered the military’s top legal official to examine possible legal action against the filmmakers behind the Gaza documentary “NAZA”, which won a special jury prize at the Venice Film Festival this week. Zamir also ordered an investigation into the possible leaking of classified material used in the film, which alleges serious wrongdoing in the IDF’s use of AI-assisted targeting in Gaza. Among the film’s allegations is that the IDF planned a strike in which 500 civilian deaths were anticipated, a claim the military has called “completely false”. The IDF has also rejected the film’s allegations over its use of AI, saying decisions on selecting and approving strikes are made by human personnel “and not by artificial intelligence”.
