Israel: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc has taken the lead as official votes are counted following yesterday’s general election, despite initial exit polls suggesting the opposition was ahead. With 76.8% of ballot boxes counted, Netanyahu’s right-wing and religious bloc is projected to win 54 seats, compared with 47 for the opposition led by Gadi Eisenkot. Arab-led parties are projected to win a total of 19 seats, leaving neither main bloc with the 61 seats needed to form a government. The results remain preliminary, with votes from soldiers and other special ballots still to be counted.
