UK: Mayors and local leaders across England are to be given powers to impose a new “tourist tax” on overnight stays in hotels, B&Bs and Airbnb-style accommodation. The government says the money could be reinvested in transport, high streets and public spaces, while the hospitality industry has warned the move could cost thousands of jobs.
