UK: Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch reportedly believes Prime Minister Andy Burnham will call a snap general election “sooner rather than later” and has asked for formal pre-election talks with the Civil Service to begin. Badenoch has reportedly written to Cabinet Secretary Dame Antonia Romeo asking her to seek Burnham’s approval for discussions between senior civil servants and the Conservatives, saying the Civil Service should have as much time as possible to prepare for the party’s plans for government. Burnham has played down speculation of an early election, saying this week that it is not “what people are looking for right now”.
