Middle East: The US has launched a new wave of strikes against Iran, targeting sites near the Strait of Hormuz, as fighting between the two countries escalates. President Donald Trump said the strikes were in retaliation for what he described as an Iranian attempt to lay sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz and Iran firing eight missiles at a US military base in Jordan, which he said were all intercepted. Trump warned that if Iran retaliates, it will be hit “again at a much harder and higher level”, adding that an even bigger attack is “waiting in the wings”.
