Thailand: Thai authorities have revoked the citizenship of Rabbi Yosef Chaim Kantor, the country’s Chief Rabbi and head of Chabad Thailand for more than 30 years, over his continued use of an American passport. The order was signed by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul after investigators were said to have found that Rabbi Kantor had continued travelling on his US passport despite obtaining Thai citizenship in 2013, in violation of the country’s naturalisation rules. Chabad Thailand expressed disappointment over the decision, saying: “Rabbi Kantor has served the Jewish community in Thailand for more than 30 years, and Thailand is home to him and his family.” The organisation said the matter was being handled through the appropriate legal channels and expressed confidence in the Thai legal system.
