Israel: Israel’s Central Elections Committee has rejected allegations of widespread fraud in Tuesday’s general election, saying the vote was conducted lawfully and there is no evidence of systematic irregularities. Acting director general Dean Livne said there was no basis for claims of systematic election violations, following accusations by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party that the election had been stolen. He clarified that the separate Shin Bet investigation into suspected foreign interference was based on classified intelligence that had not yet been verified. Meanwhile, Qatar has strongly denied allegations that it funded efforts to influence the election, describing the accusations as “ridiculous and dangerous” and accusing Israeli politicians of using the country as a scapegoat for their political failures.
