UK: A venue at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe has accepted that it unlawfully discriminated against Jewish comedian Philip Simon when it cancelled his show last year. The Banshee Labyrinth scrapped Simon’s solo show over what it said were his views on the war in Gaza. Simon said at the time he had been cancelled “just for being Jewish”, insisting he had “never expressed support for anything other than freeing the hostages and finding a way to peace”. At Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, Simon’s lawyer said the venue had conceded “on the eve of the hearing” that it had discriminated against him contrary to the Equality Act. “The whole issue of liability has now been resolved in the pursuer’s favour,” he told the court.
