UK: A family of 18 from Gaza has won the legal right to come to the UK after an immigration tribunal overturned the Home Office's refusal of their refugee application on human rights grounds. A Gaza-born mother-of-three, who had previously been granted asylum in Britain, successfully appealed after being refused permission to bring her extended family to Britain. The tribunal ruled that denying entry would breach her right to family life under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). The ruling means she can now be joined by her parents, her brother, his wife and four children, one sister and her four children, and another sister, her husband and three children. Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, warned that the ruling risked “opening the floodgates to thousands of Palestinians claiming asylum in the UK”, and urged the Home Secretary to appeal the “shameful” decision to a higher court.
