US: President Donald Trump has dismissed growing fears over the safety of artificial intelligence as a “hoax”, after warnings from leading AI executives triggered a global sell-off in AI-linked shares. Trump made an unexpected call to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang while he was on stage, saying AI data centres are “the oil of the next 20-25 years” and arguing that critics are “playing right into the hands” of those who do not want the US to dominate the AI race. “The robots are not going to be taking over the world,” Trump said.
