Before polls opened in the US midterm elections, President Trump warned that Republicans could face election losses. Speaking at the reopening event for the Lincoln Memorial reflection pool, Trump said, "For some reason, the sitting president doesn't win the midterms, but we gave this a very strong shot." He also reiterated his pledge to give every US citizen $5,000 if Republicans retain their majority in both chambers of the US Congress.
