Manhattan rents just hit another all-time high. In July, Manhattan’s median rent reached $5,000, while the average climbed to $6,306. At the luxury end, the average rent jumped 34.7% year over year to $17,464. The surge comes as more wealthy New Yorkers choose to rent rather than buy, with the city’s pied-à-terre tax making second-home ownership more expensive.
