*Erika Donalds Says Florida Civics Curriculum Needs More Teeth* Education Freedom Foundation founder Erika Donalds says Florida should put more force behind civics instruction, including tougher testing for both teachers and students. Appearing Friday on Florida’s Voice with Drew Steele, Donalds said the state already treats civics as a priority, but that is not enough on its own. “I believe we DO need more teeth in our civics curriculum,” she said. Florida already requires a middle school civics course, a civics end-of-course exam that counts toward a student’s grade, and a high school Civic Literacy exam. Teachers can also earn a Civics Seal of Excellence after additional training. Donalds’ argument is that standards and courses only work if schools actually measure whether students and teachers know the material. *Florida Scoop’s Take:* Parents already hear a lot about civics being “back.” The next fight is whether kids can actually explain how government works, not just sit through the class.
