*Woman Arrested After “Car Wash” Stop At Closed Mar-A-Lago Checkpoint* A 29-year-old Loxahatchee woman is in custody after police say a strange stop at a closed Secret Service checkpoint near Mar-a-Lago turned into a chase that shut down part of South Ocean Boulevard for more than three hours Tuesday night. Alexa Rae Scharf pulled a gray Hyundai into the Bath & Tennis Club west parking lot around 6:05 p.m., police say. That lot is used to screen vehicles heading toward Mar-a-Lago. No one was authorized to enter at the time. She parked by the screening tents, got out, and turned on a hose. When a Secret Service agent asked who she was, she allegedly answered, “I’m here for the car wash.” Police say she then got back in the SUV, ignored commands to stop, and drove toward the agent, forcing him out of the way. Minutes later, officers found the Hyundai at 1236 S. Ocean Blvd., less than half a mile away, after it allegedly went through a gate toward an oceanfront estate. South Ocean Boulevard was closed between Via Agape and that address from about 6 p.m. until around 9:30 p.m. After a standoff, officers opened the driver’s door and took Scharf into custody. Palm Beach police say a pit bull inside the SUV then jumped over her, charged officers, and bit one. An officer shot the dog. A veterinarian was called to the scene but could not save it. Scharf faces charges that include fleeing and eluding, resisting, and aggravated assault with a vehicle. *Florida Scoop’s Take:* A closed checkpoint on that stretch of A1A is not a car wash. If you live or drive near Mar-a-Lago, treat those tents as security, not an open lot.
