Israel And Venezuela UN Envoys Meet After Years Of Freeze Israel’s UN ambassador Danny Danon met Venezuela’s UN ambassador Coromoto Godoy Calderón for the first time after years with no contact between the two missions. Danon said they discussed strengthening ties between the countries, renewing consular connections, and the Israeli aid sent to Venezuela after the June earthquakes. The two countries cut diplomatic relations in 2009. Consular channels were only restarted earlier this month, following Israel’s humanitarian mission after the twin quakes that killed more than 1,700 people. Danon said Israel will keep working to deepen cooperation with Venezuela at the UN and in the international arena. Florida Scoop’s Take: After 17 years of silence, a first handshake at the UN is not full relations. It is a real step. For families with roots in both communities, that matters.
