*FDOT Revokes Flock Camera Permits On State Roads* The Florida Department of Transportation is pulling automated license plate readers off state highway rights-of-way. A new FDOT memo revokes all existing permits for those cameras, including Flock units installed by local police on state roads. Agencies have 30 days to take them down. If they do not, FDOT says it will remove them. FDOT is also stopping all future permits for license plate reader systems on roads under its control. The order applies only to the State Highway System. Cameras on county roads, city streets, and private property are not covered. Gov. Ron DeSantis raised the issue last week, saying the spread of the cameras had gotten “out of control” and that he does not want Florida to become a “surveillance state.” He pointed to reports of misuse, including a case involving an officer tracking an ex-girlfriend. *Florida Scoop’s Take:* This is a big move on state roads, but most of the cameras drivers pass every day sit on local roads and private lots. Those stay unless cities, counties, and HOAs decide otherwise.
