*South Miami Family Loses Dog In Crocodile Attack Behind Home* An 8-year-old Dutch shepherd named Kygo was killed Thursday morning after getting too close to the canal behind his family’s home in South Miami. Owner Enrique Pomares said he let his dogs out around 8 a.m. in the 6200 block of SW 64th Court, like he does every morning. Kygo was near the shoreline when a crocodile came up and grabbed him. Pomares said he spent several minutes trying to get the crocodile off his dog. He even considered putting a kayak in the water. The crocodile killed Kygo and dragged him toward the canal. The dog’s body was later found near SW 63rd Court and 56th Street. South Miami Police are warning residents to keep children and pets away from canals, ponds, and other waterways. Do not approach, feed, or try to capture a crocodile. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating. American crocodiles are a protected species. Pomares said Kygo was family. He wants to take his concerns to Tallahassee and push for stronger protections for pets living near canals.
