Mast, who lost both legs serving as a U.S. Army bomb disposal expert in Afghanistan, stood quietly as Waksal recited the ancient words from Numbers. “May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord shine His face upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift His face toward you and grant you peace.” The two men, both marked by the lasting costs of war, shared a quiet exchange of respect at the memorial wall.
