Miami-Dade Sheriff Says MDSO Is Short 150 Deputies Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz shared results from a countywide survey on Thursday. Seventy percent of respondents said they have high or very high trust in the sheriff’s office. Seventy-seven percent want faster emergency response times. Sixty-four percent want to see more deputies in their communities. Residents also flagged aggressive driving and called for more patrols near Southwest Eighth Street and Northwest 12th Street. Cordero-Stutz said crime is down across the board but noted the office is currently short 150 deputies. The starting salary for a deputy is just over $66,000. She said she continues to push for more funding to keep deputies from leaving for higher-paying agencies.
