*Staten Island's Hebrew Free Burial Association Marks 138 Years of Free Kevurah for Klal Yisroel* On 20 Cheshvan, Hebrew Free Burial Association will mark 138 years of providing levayos and kevuros for any member of Klal Yisroel who does not have the means. HFBA was founded on October 25, 1888, as Chevra Agudath Achim Chesed Shel Emes, at a time of massive Jewish immigration to the United States, when its founders saw that many Yidden could not afford a proper halachic kevurah. A group of wealthy Jews took action and purchased a plot of land on Staten Island to serve as the organization's cemetery. The cemetery, Silver Lake Cemetery, was almost filled by 1909. In 1909 HFBA purchased Mount Richmond Cemetery, and it has continued to serve Yidden in need, without interruption since 1909. *_Join the Island Media WhatsApp Status_* https://wa.me/19297271071?text=Subscribe *_Join the Island News and Updates group_* https://chat.whatsapp.com/Bi5MGP3Nx1qJUoVkKmYW5j
