*Heating Assistance Applications Open November 2* Eligible New Yorkers can apply for help with winter heating bills through HEAP starting November 2. A family of four earning up to $82,230 annually may qualify. Base benefits will rise to $990 for households heating with oil, kerosene or propane, and $700 for those using wood, pellets or coal. More than 1.1 million households are expected to receive benefits automatically through enrollment in programs such as SNAP and public assistance. Additional assistance may be available based on income and household members’ ages or disabilities. Emergency benefits for qualifying households facing a fuel shortage or utility shutoff open January 4.
