Truck Traffic: New Proposal Targets Port Backups A City Council proposal aims to tackle the truck lines that repeatedly clog streets near Port Liberty and the Goethals Bridge, blocking driveways and trapping nearby residents. The bill, introduced by Councilmember Frank Morano and backed by Councilmember David Carr, would require DOT to identify problem areas near freight terminals and coordinate enforcement. Measures could include restrictions on trucks waiting or idling, traffic officers and immediate towing of trucks blocking homes or businesses. Council members and community boards could request action, with DOT required to investigate within 30 days and explain its decision. The proposal remains under committee review and has not become law. Join the Island Media WhatsApp Status Join the Island News and Updates group
