*Lithium-Ion Battery Thrown in Trash Sparks Fire in Sanitation Truck in South Beach* A fire broke out in the back of a Sanitation truck near Sand Lane and Olympia Boulevard in South Beach on Thursday morning. The FDNY received the call at about 9:40 a.m., and firefighters quickly put out the flames. No injuries were reported. According to the FDNY, the fire was caused by a lithium-ion battery that had been thrown in the garbage, which the Sanitation Department confirmed. A Sanitation spokesperson said it is illegal to throw lithium-ion batteries in the trash or recycling, as it puts sanitation workers in danger, and urged residents to visit nyc.gov/batteries for safe ways to dispose of them. *_Join the Island Media WhatsApp Status_* https://wa.me/19297271071?text=Subscribe *_Join the Island News and Updates group_* https://chat.whatsapp.com/Bi5MGP3Nx1qJUoVkKmYW5j
