Hatzolah Volunteers to Get Quadrupled State Tax Credit Hatzolah members and other volunteer emergency responders across New York State will soon be eligible for a much larger tax credit. Under legislation signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul on October 17, the annual state income tax credit for eligible volunteers rises from $200 to $800, and from $400 to $1,600 for married couples who both qualify. The increase takes effect with the 2027 tax year, meaning volunteers can claim the higher amount when filing in 2028. Volunteers may choose either the state income tax credit or a qualifying local property tax exemption. The law aims to recognize volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers and encourage more people to join. Join the Island Media WhatsApp Status Join the Island News and Updates group
