Retired Port Authority Officers Tell Mamdani and Hochul to Stay Away From 9/11 Ceremony The Port Authority Retired Police Association, representing roughly 600 retired officers, is urging New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Gov. Kathy Hochul not to attend the 25th anniversary 9/11 ceremony at Ground Zero. The group says their presence would cause “deep pain” to some victims’ families, survivors and first responders, citing concerns over Mamdani’s public positions and Hochul’s decision to illuminate One World Trade Center for Muslim American Heritage Month. A separate petition calling for Mamdani to stay away has gathered more than 95,000 signatures. Both Mamdani and Hochul say they still plan to attend.
