25 Years After 9/11, Just 40% of Young Americans Blame Al-Qaeda A new survey finds that only 40% of Americans ages 18–29 identify Al-Qaeda as responsible for the September 11 attacks, compared with 66% of those 45 and older. Nearly 29% of young respondents said they were unsure who carried out the attacks. The survey also found that 20% of young Americans viewed Israel or “Zionists” as the greatest threat of a 9/11-scale attack on U.S. soil.
