Israel Aims to Become a Global Military Space Power Defense Minister Israel Katz welcomed the IDF's decision to establish a new Space Division, calling it a major step toward turning Israel into a leading military space power. Katz described the initiative as Israel's own "Star Wars" program, with the goal of developing advanced capabilities to monitor, defend against, and strike targets from space. The new division will be led by a brigadier general, reflecting the importance Israel is placing on space as a future military domain. Katz said the initiative would strengthen Israel's deterrence against regional and distant threats while accelerating innovation, investment, and economic growth in the country's civilian space industry.
