Trump: Butler Assassination Attempt Was a “Democrat Plot” President Trump accused Democrats and the Biden-era FBI of mishandling the investigation into the July 2024 assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, calling it a failed “Democrat plot” to remove him from the election. Trump said newly discovered information had surfaced and alleged that by the time he returned to office, much of the investigative material was missing, altered, corrupted or gone. The President did not provide evidence linking Democrats to the assassination attempt. FBI Director Kash Patel testified that investigators have found no evidence that gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks coordinated with others. Attorney General Todd Blanche has separately confirmed that the FBI recently uncovered new information related to Crooks.
