Iran Accelerates Work at Deeply Buried Nuclear Site Near Natanz New satellite imagery analyzed by CSIS shows a major surge in construction activity during 2026 at Iran’s deeply buried Pickaxe Mountain complex, about 2 kilometers south of the Natanz nuclear facility. CSIS says the site appears to be moving from excavation toward internal construction and further reinforcement. The analysis cannot confirm reports that Iran has moved centrifuges into the facility. The underground site is heavily fortified and considered extremely difficult to destroy with conventional bunker-busting weapons.
