China Presses Iran to Rein In Houthis After Saudi Appeal China has privately urged Iran to use its influence over the Houthis to prevent further escalation in Yemen and the Red Sea, according to three Iranian sources cited by Reuters. The request came after Saudi Arabia appealed to Beijing for help as Houthi advances along the Red Sea coast and around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait increased concerns over Saudi oil exports and commercial shipping. China has publicly called for restraint and dialogue, while Iran has argued that regional stability depends on ending the US-Israel war against it. Photo: Chinese and Iranian flags.
