25 Years After 9/11, Survey Finds Only 40% of Young Americans Blame Al-Qaeda A new survey marking 25 years since the September 11 attacks found that just 40% of Americans ages 18–29 surveyed identified Al-Qaeda as responsible. Nearly 29% said they were unsure, while 19% selected the false claim that the attacks were a “Zionist operation” and 11% blamed the CIA. In a separate sample of American Muslims, about 24% identified Al-Qaeda as responsible, compared with 62% of non-Muslim respondents. The findings highlight the spread of conspiracy theories and declining historical knowledge surrounding one of the most consequential terrorist attacks in US history.
