US Extends Visa Sanctions on Palestinian Authority and PLO Officials The US State Department has extended visa sanctions on Palestinian Authority officials and PLO members ahead of next week's UN General Assembly in New York. The restrictions include Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, preventing him from attending the gathering in person for the second consecutive year. Washington cited Palestinian efforts at the ICC and ICJ, attempts to secure unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state, continued payments to terrorists, and what it described as the glorification of terrorism. A standing waiver remains in place for personnel assigned to the PLO Observer Mission to the UN.
