Hegseth Calls US Military Mission "Historic" Following Secret Israel Visit US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described American troops serving under CENTCOM as being on a "historic mission" following his unannounced visit to the Middle East. "As always, it was an honor to visit our warfighters in CENTCOM today. The best of our country, on a historic mission. Godspeed," Hegseth wrote. His remarks came after reports that he met Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Ovda Airbase in southern Israel. The visit comes amid discussions over possible renewed military action against Iran, although Hegseth did not specify what he meant by the historic mission.
